Both maternal and social relationships predict gut microbiota similarity early in life (adult-immature pairs), with the the magnitude of the maternal effect waning in adulthood (adult-adult pairs). Effect size estimates (points) and their 95% credible intervals are plotted from Bayesian regression (brms) models with pairwise microbiota similarity among hosts (Jaccard Index) as the response. Where credible intervals do not overlap zero, a variable significantly predicts microbiota similarity
