Study timeline. Study calves were born during a 26-day calving window (March 14 – April 9), and then were turned out to pasture on May 25. Study calves were sampled 3 times: (1) at pre-weaning processing on September 21; (2) at weaning on October 18; (3) at post-weaning on October 20. Castration interventions are depicted by vertical dashed lines, producing 4 castration timing groups. Weaning intervention is depicted by a vertical red line, producing 2 weaning strategy groups
